Celebrating National Cheeseburger Day with Vegetarian Cheeseburger Wraps

By cheating …. just a little 🙂

The Burger(s)

I do make my own burgers out of Quorn or Soya mince, which are sooo delicious they deserve their own blog post, so recipe coming soon!

But, I wanted to make something a little out of the ordinary this time.

So I have made not one, but TWO versions of Vegetarian Cheeseburgers to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day.

Vegetarian Cheeseburger Wrap

Using Quorn or Soya Mince (I used Tesco’s own brand which is Vegan) cooked with some onion & garlic.

For the fixings (toppings) ‘we’ decided on a little chopped onion, Easy Homemade Ketchup (using Stevia to replace all the sugar), yellow mustard (this time we used store bought), slices of Gouda (or Vegan cheese) and some pickled cornichons (for the pickled gherkin flavour) and lettuce!
Does that sound about right??

The Cheeseburger Wraps

Tortilla wraps are amazing for this filling, and you can of course omit the cheese or make it Vegan, add other fixings e.g. mushrooms, sliced red onion, BBQ sauce etc but we were really trying for a Traditional Cheeseburger flavour this time.

We used the small size tortillas for these wraps (cheeseburger size :)), served alongside oven roasted Sweet & Regular Potato Fries/Chips.

(For followers of Slimming World an average mini ’15cm’ wrap approx 28g = 4.5 syns). Prefer syn free – try the Portobello Cheeseburger instead!

Simple, cheap and best of all, really quick to prepare. All the benefits of homemade, without the fuss of making burgers! Great as a meal for one and just as easy to make for a crowd.

Make up your mince – fill, wrap and pan fry!


Cheeseburger Wraps are Awesome!

Easy to make a batch of mince ahead of time and use it to fill individual tortillas as a snack or as part of a quick and healthy meal!

To prepare Soya mince just by itself is a little different from just adding it to a Pasta sauce or a Shepherd’s Pie as we normally do.

Cheeseburger Wrap

From at
Prep: Cook: Yield: 1-4Total:

All the flavours of a traditional Cheeseburger, in a pan fried Wrap! Vegetarian, easily made Vegan deliciousness!

You'll Need...

  • 200g frozen Soya Mince
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1 clove garlic chopped
  • 50ml water
  • salt & pepper
  • 6 -8 mini Tortilla wraps
  • 3-4 thin slices of Gouda cheese halved
  • Olive Oil spray


  1. Spray your frying pan with a little oil, and add the mince, chopped onion and garlic.
  2. Fry for a couple of minutes until the mince is defrosted and starts to dry out.
  3. Then add about 50ml water and cook over a low to medium heat until the onions are soft and the mince is cooked, and the water has been absorbed.
  4. To assemble the wraps start with half a slice of cheese down the centre of the tortilla. Top with a layer of mince then onion, ketchup, mustard lettuce etc etc.
  5. Wrap tortilla like a burrito i.e. fold in the two sides towards the centre, then bring up the bottom 'flap' and roll until all the filling is enclosed. Press down lightly to slightly flatten it.
  6. Warm your frying pan (use the same one the mince was cooked in, saves on the washing up!) and fry your wraps, seam side down for a minute or so. Flip and cook on the other side.

Additional Notes

Serve Cheeseburger Wraps with the fries, some coleslaw and plenty of homemade ketchup for dipping!

Fry on both sides – done!


To make Crispy Fries just follow this easy recipe!

Preheat your oven to Max (mine goes to 250 degrees C)

1 large sweet potato peeled, washed & sliced into long chips
1 large white potato peeled, washed & sliced into long chips
olive oil spray
salt & pepper
Rinse and shake off excess water, then wrap in kitchen paper and microwave until soft – about 15 minutes.

Note : turn the ‘packet’ at 5 minutes and check if done at 10 mins, 11 mins, 12 mins etc

Spread the chips onto a baking tray and spray all over with oil, season with salt and pepper.
Bake for approx 10 – 15 minutes turning half way through.

Microwaving makes for a drier potato, which gets crispier, faster. But, you can parboil the chips in salted water if you prefer, until just cooked. Drain and spread onto a baking tray. Let the chips dry for a little then spray with oil and season. Bake as above.

Eat with lots of Homemade Ketchup!

Easy, healthy homemade Ketchup!

2 heaped tablespoons of tomato puree
a good pinch of dry mustard powder
2 good splashes of balsamic vinegar or soy sauce to taste
1 heaped tablespoon of stevia

Salt & Pepper

50- 100 ml of cold water (add a little at a time, stir well and keep tasting)

We prefer this ketchup to the store bought, and with no sugar you can enjoy lots of it, guilt free 🙂

Cheeseburger wraps are the perfect meal for one, perfect for Students, cheap quick and easy. Great as a snack or as a tasty main meal!

And what about something different for a Vegetarian BBQ with all the traditional Cheeseburger ‘sides’.

Simple and so versatile!


Freeze it!

Leftovers? You can also prepare the wraps (without lettuce) cook and then freeze them for a quick snack or dinner, or even breakfast LOL

They are the perfect freezer food, as they are quite flat and square and don’t take up much room. Wrap them in plastic wrap when cool, then pop them into a freezer bag. Just microwave for a couple of minutes until heated through, and eat.

No microwave, no problem!

Wrap the cooked Cheeseburger wraps in foil first, then the plastic wrap then freeze in bags. To eat just leave the Cheeseburger wrap on the counter for about 15-20 minutes until mostly defrosted, remove plastic wrap and place on a pre heated tray in a warm oven until heated through, about 10 minutes, flipping it over after 5 minutes.
